Charlenne Medina, EdD, MA, ATC, NREMT, serves as the Head Athletic Trainer at Santa Monica College, where she oversees the healthcare and medical services for all 17 intercollegiate athletic programs.
Medina brings a diverse background in athletic training, emergency medicine, and healthcare education. Prior to joining Santa Monica College, she worked at California State University, Long Beach, where she helped lead initiatives in policy and procedure development, including Emergency Action Planning, and provided CPR instruction for coaches and staff. Her experience spans collegiate athletics, industrial medicine, clinical practice, and secondary school athletics.
Throughout her career, Medina has worked with organizations including Select Medical at LAX, San Diego State University, West Coast Sports Medicine Foundation, Long Beach Unified School District, and the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District. She also previously served as an EMT for a private ambulance company and continues to support the CSULB EMT Program through skills instruction and lecturing. In addition, she serves as a preceptor for the CSULB Master of Science in Athletic Training program.
A dedicated advocate for the athletic training profession, Medina has been an active member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association for over a decade and remains involved in leadership initiatives through the California Athletic Trainers' Association and the Far West Athletic Trainers' Association.
Medina is a proud alumna of California State University, Long Beach, where she earned both her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and Master of Arts in Sport Management. She also earned her Doctor of Education in Healthcare Education from Rockhurst University. She holds certificates in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Medical Spanish, as well as certifications in Myofascial Decompression, RockBlades Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), and Positional Release Therapy.
Outside of work, Charlenne enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring new restaurants, traveling with her boyfriend Kyle, and walking her dog, Pongo.
